Our Home.... Redroof Farm, Lincolnshire

Ramsgrove is a small kennel where all dogs live in the house as part of the family. Although we enjoy showing and breeding the occasional litter our dogs are primarily family pets and this makes temperament a top priority.

History

My first Beardie, Jandell Jeremiah, arrived more than 40 years ago and became my constant childhood companion. Jerry was by Gayfield Rogh Branches ex Helga of Harrowbarrow, a daughter and granddaughter of the great Ch Wishanger Cairnbhan. I entered Jerry at a few dog shows and began what developed into a lifetime hobby.

A few years later Pepperland Andy Panda at Ramsgrove arrived, a chocolate box dark brown puppy by Ch Davealex Royle Brigadier ex Pepperland’s Osmart Bronze Pandora. By this time I was studying for A levels and preparing for life at college, so Panda’s show career was very limited. He was used a few times at stud and produced some lovely offspring, in particular Ch Arranbourne Charisma and my own Potterdale Anderson at Ramsgrove, otherwise known as Penfold.

Penfold won his junior warrant and two reserve ccs but his real value to the breed was as an outstanding stud dog, producing five champions in the UK and many more abroad. He sired Ch. Potterdale Conclusion in his first litter and Am and Can Ch Potterdale Double Image in a repeat of this mating. These two dogs have been hugely influential in the development of the breed on both sides of the Atlantic.

Family circumstances kept us out of the show ring for more than a decade but shortly after Penfold’s death at the grand age of 15 we decided the time was right to look for another Beardie to show and we set out to find a dog with several lines going back to Panda and Penfold.

After a lot of thought and careful deliberation we booked a dog puppy from a litter expected at Gillaber. We made the trip from London to Aberdeen to see the youngsters when they were five weeks old and instantly fell in love with a gorgeous slate puppy named Drummond. We somehow persuaded breeders Ailsa Gill and Hazel Cook to let us have him and two weeks later Gillaber Drummond joined us. He was an outstanding puppy and we will always be grateful for the kindness and generosity Ailsa and Hazel showed in letting ‘Jendie’ join us. See Jendie’s page for more details of his show and stud career.

We have now moved to Lincolnshire and at long last have the space and time to show our dogs extensively and to breed occassional litters.

We are looking forward to the future.
